POBOY INVESTMENT CLUB
Why in the world do we call ourselves"POBOYS"
After all, aren't we in this club to make money?
Where did the name POBOY come from?
Way back in 1992 ten of us got together and started this great adventure.  Oh,yes...we knew there were other clubs around which we could join,  and about a thousand or so mutual funds we could get into.   But we all wanted to start a club, so that we could control our own destiny,  and make our own investment decisions.   We also were very interested in finding a way to build a new type of club wich anybody could afford to join, regardless of their income level, station in life, or any other limiting factors. Most of the other clubs we checked out required a new member to buy in as an equal partner. That meant that, if the club was worth $10,000, and their were 5 members, a new member would need to invest $2,000 at the outset. We felt that this limiting factor would prelude a lot of people from joining, either becuase they simply didn't want to risk that much initially, or they simply didn't have that kind of money lying around to sink into an investment venture. So, we got our heads together and decided that anybody can afford $10 a month, and that everybody ought to invest at least that much in savings on a regular basis.
So the POBOY INVESTMENT CLUB  was born, or maybe reborn.
Club member Doyle Hutson coined the original phrase way back in 1966, we just adopted it in 1992. Well, that certainly set up a great way for the average small investor to get a piece of the stock market, but we weren't through just yet. What about the person who wanted a bigger piece of the pie?
We set it up to give that investor a chance to own a larger chunk of the club, too. The bylaws were written to allow a member to own up to 25% of all the club's outstanding shares, but not more than that. The thinking was that no individual should have a larger holding than 25%, precluding any individual from having to much control.
That way the club belongs to all of us.
Currently, our largest investor owns just under 10%.

So now you know why we call ourselves PoBoys. It's not because we want to be poor.......it's just that anybody can afford to join us, no matter how rich or poor they may be.

ACTUALLY,we all want to be RICHBOYS or RICHGIRLS!!
